In Rolpa’s Khumel area, 110 people became ill after eating food served at a memorial ceremony marking the 13th day of a local elder.
Around 150 guests gathered for the event on Saturday, but many fell sick by 3 PM, experiencing vomiting and diarrhea after eating dal bhat, vegetables, puri, and pickles.
Most patients received initial treatment at the local health post, while 12 seriously ill people were sent to Rolpa Hospital in Reugha for further care. Doctors confirmed the cause was food poisoning due to bacterial contamination, likely from improper food handling.
According to Dr. Rishabh Gautam of Rolpa Hospital, 4 patients have already been discharged after treatment, while 8 remain under care. The hospital advised extra caution when preparing food for large gatherings to avoid such incidents.
