Three individuals have been arrested in Kathmandu for alleged involvement in illegal cryptocurrency trading. They were caught with over Rs. 4.2 lakh in cash and more than 200 SIM cards.
The arrested individuals are:
- Phurba Sangey Sherpa (31) from Mewakhola Rural Municipality–4, Taplejung
- Deepak Darnal (31) from Aiselukharka Rural Municipality–7, Khotang
- Bhim Bahadur Tamang (31) from Mahalaxmi Municipality–8, Dhankuta
According to Kathmandu District Police, the suspects were targeting people preparing to go abroad for work. They reportedly lured victims by offering financial benefits, asked them to open bank accounts, and then misused those accounts for illegal transactions.
The Kathmandu District Court has granted police 5 days of custody for further investigation under charges related to unauthorized virtual currency trading.
