In Sri Lanka, around 50 wild elephants have died this year due to illegal electric wires, according to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) on Monday.
The CEB stated that wild elephants, which are symbols of the country’s biodiversity, face a growing threat of extinction due to human activities.
The CEB has already taken several steps to address this illegal practice. It also urged the public to cooperate in efforts to protect wild elephants.
Data shows that 90 wild elephants died in Sri Lanka in 2023.
