A plane of American Airlines has crashed after colliding with a helicopter in Washington, D.C., USA.
The plane, carrying 60 passengers, and the helicopter collided near Ronald Reagan Airport. A video shows the plane and the helicopter crashing and exploding over a nearby river.
Following the accident, the airport has been closed.
The helicopter had three U.S. military personnel on board. The condition of the passengers and crew on both the plane and the helicopter is unknown. Search operations are ongoing in the nearby river.
The aircraft, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, had taken off from Wichita, Kansas.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States, the plane was preparing to land on Runway 33 of Washington D.C.’s Ronald Reagan Airport when it collided mid-air with the helicopter and fell into the Potomac River.
The condition of those aboard the plane and helicopter remains unknown. According to Reuters, the helicopter was a U.S. Army “Black Hawk” with three personnel on board.
