Nepal is considered highly vulnerable to earthquakes due to years of stored energy beneath the Earth’s surface, particularly in western Nepal. Experts warn that major quakes can occur anytime and emphasize the need for earthquake-resistant structures and disaster preparedness.
However, small and frequent tremors are seen positively as they help release the accumulated energy gradually.
In the past, Nepal has faced devastating earthquakes, including a 6.4-magnitude quake in Jajarkot on Kartik 17, 2080, which claimed over 150 lives, and the 7.6-magnitude Gorkha earthquake on Baisakh 12, 2072, which killed 8,970 people.
