Speaking at a program organized by the Department of Transport on Monday, Dahal stressed the need for simplifying and streamlining the process of issuing driver’s licenses, renewal, and distribution. He stated that since the provincial governments are also responsible for transportation management, the printing and distribution of driver’s licenses should be carried out at the provincial level.
He said, “The responsibility of transport management lies with the provincial governments as well. Therefore, the printing, renewal, and distribution of driver’s licenses should be handled at the provincial level. A ‘cut-off date’ should be set, after which all these processes will be carried out by the provinces, and each province should prepare to manage these tasks.”
Ministry Secretary Keshav Kumar Sharma mentioned that coordination between the Transport Department and the provinces is essential to eliminate the complexities in the license printing process and to ensure it is done at the provincial level. He also urged for the acceleration of the installation of embossed number plates that have already been printed.
The Director-General of the Department, Rajiv Pokharel, explained that the program was organized to improve coordination between the central government, provinces, and local bodies in providing transportation services. All the secretaries of the transport ministries from the provinces participated in the event. –RSS
