This year, Kailali district produced 324,884 metric tons of monsoon rice, slightly higher than last year, according to the Agriculture Knowledge Center.
Information officer Shankardatta Awasthi stated that rice was cultivated on 68,541 hectares of land, yielding an average of 4.74 metric tons per hectare. This marks a 0.2% increase in production compared to last year when the same area yielded 323,280 metric tons of rice.
“Rice cultivation was done on the same amount of land as last year, but the increase in production is minimal,” Awasthi said. Last year’s productivity was 4.72 metric tons per hectare.
In addition to rice, maize was cultivated on 6,461 hectares this year, resulting in a production of 15,192 metric tons. Similarly, millet was grown on 103 hectares, producing 127 metric tons.
To boost production, the Agriculture Knowledge Center has been providing farmers with machinery, seeds, and other resources at a 50% subsidy. Farmers are also being trained to improve farming practices, Awasthi added.
