The Nepali team’s closed training for the Women’s U-19 World Cup has commenced in Bharatpur. The sessions began on Wednesday at the model field of the under-construction Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium in Ward No. 15, Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
The Women’s U-19 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Malaysia from January 5. To prepare for the competition, the closed training in Chitwan will run until January 6, as announced by the team’s head coach, Mahesh Prasad Rizal. The focus of the training will be on ‘batting, bowling, and fitness,’ he confirmed.
Team manager Binod Das highlighted that Chitwan’s cricket ground meets international standards, making it the ideal venue for the training.
Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal extended her best wishes for the success of the Nepali team and assured that the municipality would offer any required support to the players.
Roshan Singh, Vice President of the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN), explained that the initiative for the closed training in Chitwan is the result of coordination between Bharatpur Municipality and the CAN President.
He further stated that CAN is optimistic about hosting the Women’s U-19 World Cup in Nepal in 2027 at the developing Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium.
The 18-member squad taking part in the closed training will fly to Malaysia on January 11 to compete in the tournament. The Nepali team will face Bangladesh, Scotland, and Australia on January 18, 20, and 22, respectively.
