A corruption case has been filed against the Chief Administrative Officer who attempted to bribe the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). The CIAA filed the corruption case against Dhruva Prasad Sapkota, who is currently serving as the Chief Administrative Officer of Kispang Rural Municipality in Nuwakot, at the Special Court on Thursday.
Sapkota is accused of accepting bribes during his tenure as the Chief Administrative Officer of Mellekh Rural Municipality in Achham. The CIAA’s Kanchanpur office had been investigating him for alleged irregularities in the procurement of machinery equipment.
Sapkota reportedly went to the CIAA’s Kanchanpur office and handed over an envelope with documents. When the investigating officer asked Sapkota to open the green bag containing the envelope, it was found to contain NPR 100,000. The officer asked, “What is this money for?” to which Sapkota replied, “This is voluntarily brought for you to settle the case.” The CIAA immediately detained Sapkota, citing his intent to bribe.
The corruption case was filed because Sapkota allegedly attempted to bribe the investigating officer to halt the ongoing investigation into allegations of irregularities in procurement during his tenure at Mellekh Rural Municipality. According to CIAA spokesperson Narahari Ghimire, an indictment has been filed at the Special Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act 2002, setting NPR 100,000 as the principal amount in the case.
