A man has been arrested in Kathmandu for allegedly defaming a young woman on social media. The arrested individual has been identified as 27-year-old Abhinash Pradhan from Handigaun, Ward 17 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
According to the Central Cyber Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, Pradhan was taken into custody after a complaint was filed against him. It was alleged that he edited the young woman’s photo by adding nude images and posted it on Facebook, damaging her reputation after their romantic relationship ended.
The victim also stated that Pradhan sent her messages containing abusive language through Facebook Messenger.
Based on her complaint, Pradhan was arrested on Thursday under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063. The District Court of Kathmandu has granted a five-day remand for further investigation, police said.
