Ben Affleck’s crime thriller Animals is back on track, and this time, he will not only direct but also star in the movie.
How Animals Changed Over Time
Affleck first planned to direct Animals last year but did not intend to act in it. At that time, Matt Damon was supposed to play the lead role, and the movie was set up at Netflix. However, delays caused by rights issues put the project on hold.
While waiting, Affleck worked on The Accountant sequel, and Damon joined Christopher Nolan’s film The Odyssey. Now, Animals is moving forward again, with Affleck taking over as the lead actor while still directing.
What the Movie is About
The story, written by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray, follows a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped. With many political and personal enemies around them, the couple must take extreme measures to rescue their child.
Cast and Production
British actress Gillian Anderson has joined the cast, and filming is expected to start in April. Netflix is producing the film with Affleck and Damon’s company, Artists Equity. Other producers include Dani Bernfeld (Artists Equity) and Brad Weston and Collin Creighton (MakeReady).
Affleck and Damon’s Ongoing Partnership
Affleck and Damon have been working together since their hit movie Good Will Hunting (1997), which won them an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. They will also appear in another crime thriller, RIP, set to release on Netflix later this year.
