Artificial Intelligence (AI) has many uses, but concerns are growing about its potential misuse to harm innocent people.

Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, has expressed fears that terrorists might exploit AI for dangerous purposes. In an interview with the BBC, he stated that while AI is widely discussed, its extreme risks should not be ignored.

Schmidt, who held senior positions at Google from 2001 to 2017, warned that countries like North Korea, Iran, or Russia could misuse AI to develop biological weapons. He urged governments to monitor private tech companies racing to create AI models.

However, Schmidt also cautioned that excessive regulations might hinder innovation. He supported U.S. policies restricting the export of powerful microchips, a measure implemented during Joe Biden’s presidency. The current president, Donald Trump, could reverse this decision if he chooses.
