Prakriti's Father Reaches Odisha, Mother Unconscious and Being Brought Back to Bhairahawa from Kathmandu

A student found dead at Kalinga Institute of Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, has been identified as a resident of Bank Colony, Bhairahawa, Rupandehi. She was the daughter of Sunil Lamsal, a permanent resident of Ward No. 8, Siddharthanagar Municipality.

Prakriti Lamsal was a third-year BIT student at KIIT. Although her permanent home was in Bhairahawa, the Lamsal family had been running a business in Kathmandu while supporting their children’s education. Only Sunil’s parents were staying in their house in Bhairahawa.

According to Thaneshwar Poudel, a ward member of Siddharthanagar-8, upon hearing the news of their daughter’s death, Sunil traveled to Odisha via Siliguri. However, his wife, Sarita, collapsed unconscious before departure and could not accompany him. Family sources said she is currently being brought back to Bhairahawa via land route.

“Although their permanent home is here, they were living in Kathmandu for business. After hearing about the incident, I went to their house. The elderly grandparents of the deceased are in tears. Not all details have been revealed yet, but I have received information that the parents are on their way to Odisha via Siliguri today. It seems they have one son and one daughter,” Poudel told The Ritible.

Poudel expressed his shock over such a tragic incident occurring in his own neighborhood.

Prakriti’s parents reportedly reached the hospital where her body is being kept on Monday. A post-mortem is scheduled for Tuesday.

According to relatives, Prakriti had visited home during the Dashain holidays and attended online classes from home for a month. After returning to college, she had not come back home.

Her friends revealed that she had informed the college administration a month ago about being blackmailed and tortured.
