AL NASSR

Al-Nassr played out a 0-0 draw against Persepolis FC on Monday, a result that has significantly weakened the Iranian side’s chances of progressing to the knockout stages of the AFC Champions League 2024/25. The draw moved Persepolis up to eighth place in the West Zone standings, but their qualification hopes are still uncertain. With Qatar’s Al Gharafa SC and Esteghlal FC of Iran both having the chance to overtake Persepolis with victories in their final matches, the pressure is now on Persepolis to secure a spot in the next stage.

Key Players Missing for Al-Nassr

The match saw Al-Nassr fielding a much-changed lineup, with some of their star players missing. Cristiano Ronaldo and Jhon Durán were absent from the matchday squad, while Sadio Mané and Aymeric Laporte were included but remained on the bench. Despite their absence, Al-Nassr’s attack remained dangerous, with Persepolis under pressure throughout the match. However, the home team couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities to score.

Chances and Near Misses

The game saw a bright start for Persepolis in the eighth minute, when Milad Mohammadi made a strong run from left back and sent in a low cross. Farshad Ahmadzadeh slid in at the far post, but his effort went wide with Al Nassr’s goalkeeper, Raghid Najjar, unable to react in time. As the match progressed, Al Nassr took control of the midfield, with Marcelo Brozovic becoming key in dictating play. However, Persepolis responded late in the first half, with Mohammad Khodabandelho’s shot requiring a full-stretch save from Najjar.

The second half saw both teams struggle to find their rhythm. A missed chance came for Al-Nassr when Serdar Dusun fired well wide after Brozovic slipped in possession. Soon after, Al-Nassr nearly broke the deadlock when Angelo was put through on goal, but Persepolis goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz was quick to block the shot and clear the danger. Despite some close calls, the match ended in a goalless draw, leaving Persepolis in a tight spot as they fight to secure a place in the knockout stages.
