Thaman S Faces Backlash for Controversial Comments on Marriage and Women's Independence

Music composer Thaman S, known for his work on Baby John, Game Changer, and Daaku Maharaaj, recently sparked controversy with his comments about marriage during an appearance on Nikhil Vijayendra Simha’s podcast. His views on relationships, particularly regarding women’s independence, did not sit well with many on social media.

Thaman’s Remarks on Marriage and Independence

When asked about the right time for marriage, Thaman said that he wouldn’t recommend anyone getting married in today’s world, citing the increasing difficulty in sustaining relationships. He went on to explain that women today desire independence and do not wish to be “under anyone,” which he believed has led to a shift in societal norms. He also mentioned that the rise of social media platforms like Instagram, where people only showcase their perfect lives, has made it harder for people to put in the necessary effort to maintain relationships.

Thaman noted, “Right now, I don’t recommend marriages; it’s become very tough to understand the standards… post-Covid, everything changed,” further adding that people are quick to divorce because no one is willing to adjust.

Online Reaction

A clip of Thaman’s comments quickly spread on Instagram, where people expressed their displeasure. Some users criticized his comments as outdated and misogynistic, with one comment reading, “Omg! You don’t recommend marriages because women want to be independent? Because they’ve stopped being innocent? Oh sorry! You mean they stopped being dumb?”

Others expressed their disappointment, stating that Thaman’s views reflected a typical mindset where men expect women to be submissive in marriages. One user wrote, “Very conveniently he put the blame on women’s need for independence! Does it mean that independent women do not deserve companionship and love?”

There was also humor in the responses, with one person joking, “Bro realised feminism post covid,” and another calling him a “Boomer uncle.”
