In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, producer Renu Chopra, wife of late filmmaker Ravi Chopra, opened up about Shah Rukh Khan’s generosity. She recalled how SRK supported her son, Abhay Chopra’s directorial debut, Ittefaq, without charging interest on the investment, even when she lacked the funds to produce it.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Unwavering Support
Renu shared that when she approached Shah Rukh for help, he insisted on visiting her as a sign of respect. However, when weeks passed without a visit, she decided to approach him herself.
Recalling their conversation, Renu said, “I told him, ‘I don’t have the money,’ and he immediately said, ‘I’ll put it in.’ He didn’t even ask for the script. His philosophy was, ‘I don’t back the horse; I back the jockey.’ He trusted my son, so he backed the project without hesitation.”
SRK Refused to Charge Interest
Apart from funding the project, SRK also displayed another act of kindness—he refused to charge any interest on the investment. Renu recalled, “When the film was completed, and it was time to settle finances, he simply said, ‘No, I won’t take interest. It’s not right for me.’”
About Ittefaq (2017)
Directed by Abhay Chopra, Ittefaq was a neo-noir mystery thriller and an adaptation of Yash Chopra’s 1969 classic of the same name. The film, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Akshaye Khanna, and Sonakshi Sinha, received mixed reviews and managed to collect ₹51.47 crore worldwide.
SRK’s Next Project: King
On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for his upcoming action-thriller King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film is rumored to feature his daughter, Suhana Khan, alongside Abhishek Bachchan. Speaking at an event in Dubai’s Global Village, SRK teased fans about the project, stating, “I can’t reveal much, but I promise it will be an entertaining experience.”
