Man Murders Female Co-worker in Rupandehi After She Rejects His Advances

A man in Rupandehi murdered a woman he worked with after she rejected his sexual advances. According to preliminary police investigations, 42-year-old Amirika Tharu, also known as Ajay, from Tilottama Municipality Ward No. 12, had proposed a romantic relationship to Sangita Chaudhary from Lamahi Municipality Ward No. 7 in Dang. However, after she refused, he brutally killed her.

On Falgun 8 (February 20), Amirika murdered Sangita and fled. Rupandehi District Police Office spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Suraj Karki, stated that both of them had finished their labor work and were at a hotel. During their conversation about love and relationships, the woman rejected his proposal, which is believed to have led to the murder. Amirika was arrested nine days after the incident.

Sangita Chaudhary, who had been living with her friends and working as a daily wage laborer in Kalikapath, Ward No. 11, Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, was found dead on the roadside of Bethari Road Section in Siyari, Rupandehi, on Falgun 8.

Her body was discovered on the roadside, covered with straw, with her head and face severely disfigured due to being struck with stones.

After finding the body, the police used trained sniffer dogs to aid the investigation, which eventually led to the arrest of Tharu on Falgun 16 (February 28).

According to DSP Karki, Sangita was separated from her husband, while Amirika was also dealing with family issues. “On the day of the incident, both of them finished their work and were at B and B Khaja Ghar in Butwal. They left on a bicycle, and both had consumed alcohol. The woman was divorced, and the man had family problems,” Karki said. “We are conducting the final phase of the investigation.”

Police reports indicate that both the deceased Chaudhary and the arrested Tharu worked as laborers together. On the day of the incident, both had consumed alcohol, and Amirika made a sexual advance toward Sangita. When she refused, he killed her by hitting her with stones.

Police recovered two stones used in the murder, the victim’s mobile phone, a black cap, sandals, and other items from the crime scene. Additionally, they seized the black jeans worn by Amirika at the time of the crime and the bicycle used by the victim.

The police have obtained a remand from the Rupandehi District Court to continue the investigation. Incidents of homicide have been increasing in Rupandehi in recent times.
