The Nepali men’s cricket team will be playing international cricket after a long time in the upcoming June. As part of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, Nepal will travel to Scotland for a tri-nation series.
According to the schedule published on Cricket Scotland’s website, the series will begin on June 2, with Nepal facing Scotland on the same day. On June 4, Nepal will play against the Netherlands. Similarly, Nepal will again play against Scotland on June 8 and against the Netherlands on June 10.
The currently vacant head coach position of the Nepali cricket team is also expected to be filled within a few days. Previously, Nepal played under the coaching of Monty Desai, where they successfully qualified for the T20 World Cup for the second time since the Asia Cup.
In the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, which serves as a pathway to the ODI World Cup, Nepal will play three series in 2025. Among them, two will be played outside Nepal.
In October, Nepal will play against the UAE and the USA in the UAE. In November, according to the preliminary schedule, Nepal will host UAE and Oman in Nepal.
Among the seven participating teams in League 2, Nepal has played 12 matches so far and has earned only 6 points, placing them in the sixth position. Therefore, the upcoming 12 matches will be crucial for Nepal.
These matches are not only important for World Cup qualification but also for retaining Nepal’s ODI status, as their performance in these 12 matches will determine it.
In the previous edition, Nepal dramatically improved its poor performance, winning 11 out of the last 12 matches and securing a direct place in the World Cup qualifiers.
That comeback is considered one of the greatest in Nepalese cricket history.
