Nepal Telecom, the government-owned telecom company, has gained nearly 3 million new mobile data users in the past four months. According to the latest MIS report from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, the company added 2,997,381 new data users after October.

3G and 4G Users on the Rise During this period, Nepal Telecom gained 545,331 new users for 3G services and 1,852,050 new users for 4G. In just the last two months, the company added 117,259 new mobile data users. Meanwhile, private telecom company Ncell has been losing market share in data services.
Ncell Losing Data Customers In the last two months alone, Ncell lost 202,929 data users. As of the end of December, Ncell had 12,163,840 data users, but by the end of January, the number had dropped to 11,960,911. Over the past four months, Ncell has lost 25,947 data users in total.
Ncell’s Mobile Users Dropping Fast Ncell has also seen a sharp decline in its overall mobile customer base. According to the latest MIS report, Ncell lost 184,015 mobile users in just one month (January). At the end of December, Ncell had 14,737,205 mobile users, but by the end of January, the number had fallen to 14,553,190.
Nepal Telecom Expanding While Ncell Shrinks In contrast, Nepal Telecom gained 93,142 new mobile users in the same period, increasing its total mobile subscriber base to 14,901,667. Looking at the last four months, Ncell has lost 353,493 users, while Nepal Telecom has gained 556,146 new users.
Who Leads Nepal’s Telecom Market? Nepal’s telecom industry is mainly controlled by two companies – Nepal Telecom and Ncell. Currently, Nepal Telecom holds 51.27% of the market share, while Ncell has 48.73%.
