This year’s SEE examination saw viral photos and videos of students cheating by climbing over walls. However, today, it has been revealed that cheating was also carried out through digital means.
Two inspectors who facilitated cheating via a WhatsApp group were arrested by the Bara administration this morning.
The arrested individuals include Ranju Kumari, an inspector from Pannadevi Kanya Secondary School exam center, and Saurabh, who was deployed as a running guard. Chief District Officer (CDO) Basanta Adhikari stated that they have confessed to their wrongdoing and are being held in custody for further legal action.
How was cheating facilitated through WhatsApp?
As part of the SEE exam monitoring, CDO Basanta Adhikari visited various examination centers this morning, just as he did yesterday.
Upon receiving information about cheating through WhatsApp at the Pannadevi Kanya Secondary School exam center in Kalaiya, authorities intensified their surveillance. As a result, inspector Ranju Kumari and running guard Saurabh were caught red-handed.
CDO Basanta Adhikari told The Ritible, “They had created a WhatsApp group named ‘Saathi’ on their mobile phones. The inspector would take photos of the question paper and upload them to the group, where answers were provided and later passed on to the students.”
Today, the answers were received on WhatsApp, but before they could be relayed to the students, the suspects were caught along with their mobile phones, according to Adhikari.
It was also discovered that Ranju Kumari, the inspector, used the answers from the WhatsApp group to help her own daughter, who was appearing for the SEE exams at the same center.
“The use of digital means for cheating in the SEE exams has been exposed,” said CDO Adhikari. “Since such incidents may occur elsewhere as well, we need to intensify our monitoring efforts.”
