Snow White’s Box Office Struggles and Upcoming Competition

Snow White continues to struggle at the box office despite a brief respite on Tuesday Discount Day. After a significant drop of 74% on Monday, when the film made just $2.6 million, ticket sales saw a slight boost on Tuesday with lower prices. The movie grossed $3.9 million on that day, but the relief was short-lived. By Wednesday, ticket sales plummeted to $2.1 million, marking its lowest daily earnings yet.

In comparison to other recent Disney films, Snow White‘s performance on Wednesday reflects a larger trend. Maleficent 2 saw a 53% drop, earning $1.9 million on its first Wednesday. Dumbo made $2.4 million, with a 49.3% decline, while Jungle Cruise dropped by just 28.8%, grossing $3.3 million. Wonka, featuring Timothée Chalamet and Hugh Grant, fared the best with only a 25.7% decrease, earning $4.4 million.

On Wednesday, Snow White finally hit the $50 million mark in domestic earnings—an amount it was expected to reach in its opening weekend. The film, which stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, has faced considerable backlash, with many attributing its lackluster performance to the leads’ controversies. Zegler’s comments about the original 1937 film, calling it “weird,” only fueled the discontent among fans, especially those who had already expressed disapproval over her casting. Gadot’s outspoken Zionist views during the film’s production also turned off a segment of the audience.

The film was made with a $250 million budget, not including marketing costs, and it’s currently struggling to even break even at the box office. Things don’t look promising for Snow White as it faces more competition next weekend from Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie. With Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, and Jennifer Coolidge leading the cast, the movie is projected to bring in $55 to $75 million in its opening weekend, which could spell the end for Snow White.
