Google is expected to improve the camera setup in its upcoming Pixel 10 smartphone. According to a report from Android Authority, the regular Pixel 10 might get a new telephoto camera, along with changes to its main and ultra-wide lenses. This could help make the standard model more unique compared to the Pro versions.
Pixel 10 Could Feature a Periscope Telephoto Lens
The Pixel 10 may include an 11MP Samsung 3J1 sensor for the telephoto camera. This is the same sensor used in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Although the exact zoom level is not confirmed, it is expected to have a 5X optical zoom. This would be a big change for the regular Pixel model, which usually doesn’t get high-end zoom features.
Main and Ultra-Wide Cameras Also Getting Changes
Google is likely to replace both the main and ultra-wide sensors in the Pixel 10. The main camera might feature a 50MP Samsung GN8 sensor, just like the Pixel 9a. Last year’s Pixel 9 used a slightly different 50MP sensor known as the Samsung GNV.
The ultra-wide camera may be downgraded. Instead of the 48MP Sony IMX858 found in the Pixel 9, the Pixel 10 could come with a 13MP Sony IMX712 sensor. This same ultra-wide lens is also used in the Pixel 9a.
Pixel 10 Pro Models May Not See Big Camera Changes
The Pro models of the Pixel 10 series, including the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL, are not expected to get major camera upgrades. They might keep the same hardware from the previous models. However, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold could see some improvement.
Reports suggest that the foldable Pixel 10 Pro might use a 50MP Samsung GN8 main sensor. This would replace the current 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor used in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
A New Chip and Custom Image Processor Could Improve Photos
Alongside camera hardware updates, Google is also rumored to introduce a new image signal processor (ISP). This will come with the next-generation Tensor G5 chip. The custom ISP could improve how photos are processed, leading to better photo quality overall.
What This Means for Pixel Users
With these upgrades, the Pixel 10 might become more appealing to users who want advanced photography features without needing the Pro model. At the same time, Google’s focus on custom software and chips could lead to smoother and smarter image results.
