RSP President Rabi Lamichhane Brought to Bhairahawa After Arrest, To Be Presented in Court on Monday

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has been brought to Bhairahawa.

Lamichhane, who was arrested from his residence in Kathmandu on Friday night, was brought to Bhairahawa this morning. He arrived at Gautam Buddha International Airport at 9:12 AM via a Yeti Airlines flight.

He will now be kept in custody at the District Police Office. From the airport, he was taken directly to the police station. Since today and tomorrow are public holidays, he will be presented before the Rupandehi District Court only on Monday.

On Friday, the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur ordered that Lamichhane be remanded in custody for investigation on charges of embezzling cooperative funds.

The order was issued by Judges Ramesh Dhakal and Swikriti Parajuli. The order by the Rupandehi District Court to release him on bail of one crore rupees was overturned. Following the High Court’s order, Lamichhane was arrested on Friday night.

In the Butwal Supreme Cooperative case, Lamichhane had filed a petition with the High Court challenging the Rupandehi District Court’s decision to grant him release on bail of one crore rupees.

On Friday, he had been held in custody at the District Police Office in Bhadrakali, Kathmandu.

In its order to remand Lamichhane in custody, the High Court dismissed the grounds cited by the District Court for granting bail.

The High Court explained that the choice between bail and remand depends on various relevant factors such as the nature of the case and the charges, the circumstances under which the incident occurred, and the condition of the victims.
