Government Appoints Acting Vice Chancellors in 4 Health Science Institutions

The government of Nepal has named acting Vice Chancellors (VCs) for four major health science institutions. This decision comes after the term of the previous VCs ended recently.

Prime Minister Made the Appointments

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who also holds the role of Chancellor, appointed the acting VCs last Thursday. These appointments will continue until permanent VCs are officially chosen.

Who Are the New Acting VCs?

Here are the newly appointed acting VCs for each institution:

  • Pokhara Health Science Academy: Dean Prof. Dr. Shreekrishna Shrestha
  • Karnali Health Science Academy: Rector Dabal Bahadur Dhami
  • Patan Health Science Academy: Rector Prof. Dr. Pawan Sharma
  • BP Koirala Health Science Academy: Rector Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Sharma

What Are Their Responsibilities?

These acting Vice Chancellors will handle all educational, administrative, and financial responsibilities. Their main task is to keep the institutions running smoothly until permanent VCs are appointed.

When Did the Previous Terms End?

The four-year terms of the former Vice Chancellors ended between Chaitra 23 and Chaitra 27 (early April). This left the institutions in need of new leadership.

Who Were the Previous Vice Chancellors?

Here are the former VCs of the four institutions:

  • Pokhara: Prof. Dr. Duk Bahadur Chhetri
  • Dharan (BP Koirala): Dr. Gyanendra Giri
  • Karnali: Dr. Mangal Rawal
  • Patan: Prof. Dr. Rajeshnath Gangol

What Happens Next?

The government will soon form a recommendation committee. Based on the committee’s suggestions, the Prime Minister will appoint new permanent Vice Chancellors for each institution.
