The third edition of the Manmohan Memorial Cup is all set to kick off on Baisakh 13 (April 26, 2025) at the Baijanathpur Cricket Ground in Biratnagar. Organized to boost the development of cricket in Nepal, the tournament will run until Baisakh 20.
Manmohan Memorial Cup: 50-Over Format
Since its inception in 2075 BS, the Manmohan Memorial Cup has played a key role in enhancing the standard of 50-over cricket in Nepal. The first edition was successfully held in Inaruwa, Sunsari, marking a milestone in Nepal’s domestic cricket history. Tribhuwan Army Club lifted the inaugural trophy, while Nepal Police Club finished as runners-up.
Teams from Nepal and Beyond
This year, the Manmohan Memorial Cup will see participation from 12 teams, including:
- All 7 provincial teams of Nepal
- 3 departmental teams
- 1 team from Bihar, India
- 1 team from the organizing committee
The competition continues to grow in scale and recognition. In the second edition held in 2076 BS, the Malaysian national team made its debut in Nepal’s domestic cricket through this tournament. Once again, Tribhuwan Army Club clinched the title.
Organizers Aim to Promote Cricket Excellence
According to the organizers, the main goal of the Manmohan Memorial Cup is to uplift cricket in Nepal by providing more exposure to high-level 50-over matches. They believe this tournament acts as a stepping stone for Nepalese cricketers aiming for international careers.
As the countdown begins for the third edition, fans are excited to witness another chapter of thrilling cricket action in Biratnagar.
