Wang Liqin has officially been named the new president of the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA), succeeding legendary figure Liu Guoliang. The announcement was made during the second meeting of the 10th CTTA member congress in Beijing.

The leadership change marks a new chapter for Chinese table tennis as Wang, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time world champion, steps into the top administrative role. He had been serving as the CTTA’s vice president since 2018.

New Chapter Begins with Wang Liqin

The transition comes after Liu Guoliang, one of the sport’s most celebrated athletes and coaches, voluntarily stepped down to allow for leadership renewal and smooth preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Liu was honored at the meeting for his contributions, which include leading China to nine out of 10 gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games.

Liu Guoyong, deputy director of the General Administration of Sport of China, praised Liu Guoliang for helping raise China’s global influence in table tennis. He expressed confidence that Wang would build on this legacy.

Ma Long Joins Leadership Team

Alongside Wang Liqin, table tennis star Ma Long and official Gao Yuanyi were elected as vice presidents. Their appointments signal a strong, athlete-led leadership team focused on continuity and innovation.

Wang Liqin’s Vision for the Future

At 46, Wang Liqin brings both experience and passion to his new role. He vowed to uphold the mission of the CTTA and intensify the team’s preparation for future competitions, especially the Los Angeles Olympics.

“I will continue the spirit of fighting for the nation and work toward new achievements in Chinese table tennis,” said Wang Liqin.

With his rich history in the sport and administrative experience, Wang Liqin is expected to guide Chinese table tennis through its next phase of success.
