Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is recovering after being placed in an induced coma and undergoing surgery for a serious abdominal injury. The Nigeria international suffered the injury during his side’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Leicester City on Sunday.

Collision and Miscommunication

Taiwo Awoniyi collided with the goalpost in the 88th minute of the match. Though he briefly returned to the pitch, he was visibly limping through the final minutes. According to manager Nuno Espirito Santo, a communication error between Forest’s coaching and medical staff led to Awoniyi remaining on the pitch.

Reports from BBC Sport later revealed that Taiwo Awoniyi sustained a ruptured intestine in the incident and required immediate surgery. British media confirmed late Wednesday that he is now out of the induced coma and is showing signs of recovery.

Forest Yet to Comment

Nottingham Forest previously stated on Tuesday that Taiwo Awoniyi was “recovering well” post-surgery. However, the club has not made any new statements regarding his current condition as of Thursday morning.

Crucial Player for Forest

Taiwo Awoniyi has been an important figure in Nottingham Forest’s campaign. His recovery will be a major concern for both the club and Nigeria’s national team. Fans across the football world are hoping for a swift and full recovery for the 27-year-old forward.
