Mayank Yadav, one of Lucknow Super Giants’ key fast bowlers, has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a back injury. This is a major setback for LSG, who are still in the playoff race.
Mayank Yadav Played Only Two Matches in IPL 2025
Mayank Yadav had played just two matches in this season — against Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings — before the league was paused due to cross-border tensions. These were his first competitive games since October 2024, after recovering from a toe injury.
Last year, the BCCI awarded Mayank a special fast bowler’s contract because of his impressive pace and accuracy. However, following a back problem sustained after the Bangladesh T20Is, he returned to action slower than before, bowling around 130-140 kph.
Will O’Rourke Replaces Mayank Yadav in LSG Squad
To cover for Mayank Yadav’s absence, LSG have signed New Zealand pacer Will O’Rourke for INR 3 crore. The IPL confirmed the replacement in an official press release.
“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have roped in New Zealand pacer William O’Rourke as an injury replacement for Mayank Yadav. Yadav sustained a back injury and is ruled out for the remainder of the season.”
O’Rourke has never played in the IPL before but has impressed with New Zealand’s Test team, especially during their series against India and Sri Lanka. The 23-year-old also played a key role under Mitchell Santner in guiding New Zealand to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final.
LSG’s Road Ahead in IPL 2025
Led by Rishabh Pant, LSG still have a chance to reach the playoffs. They currently have 10 points from 11 matches. Their remaining fixtures are:
- Sunrisers Hyderabad – May 19
- Gujarat Titans – May 22
- Royal Challengers Bengaluru – May 27
