Shreyas Iyer Speaks Ahead of IPL 2025 Restart

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is back in action after a week-long pause caused by the military conflict between India and Pakistan. Before the break, the Punjab Kings were facing Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala when the match had to be abandoned mid-way due to rising tensions.

Now, as the season resumes, some overseas players have decided not to return, citing personal reasons. This has forced franchises, including Punjab Kings, to seek replacements.

Iyer Shows Leadership Amid Player Absences

Ahead of their clash against the Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer addressed the situation with maturity. Speaking after winning the toss and choosing to bat, he acknowledged the tough choices some overseas players had to make.

“The wicket looks fantastic,” Iyer said. “We missed being out here. Everyone is back in high spirits, and we’re focused on making the most of our chances. We respect the decisions of players who didn’t return for the remainder of the season.”

Despite the setbacks, Punjab’s playing XI still includes overseas stars Mitch Owen, Marco Jansen, and Azmatullah Omarzai.

Samson Ready, Royals Confident

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson said he would have preferred to bowl first, based on how the pitch behaved in their last match against RCB.

“I’m feeling good and fully fit,” Samson added. “I want to respect Suryavanshi’s position in the batting order. He’s done well for us, so I’ll bat down. I come in for Nitish Rana, and Maphaka replaces Jofra Archer.”

Punjab Kings Eye Top Spot

The Punjab Kings have had a solid season and are just one win away from almost guaranteeing a playoff spot. A victory against Rajasthan Royals today could also push them to the top of the points table.
