Shahid Smriti Sports Academy is all set to host the Shahid Smriti National Rugby 7s Women’s Championship 2025 on Saturday, Jestha 12 (May 25, 2025) at the Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.
Organized in technical collaboration with the Nepal Rugby Association, the event aims to spotlight women’s rugby in Nepal while also promoting sustainability.
7 Teams, 1 Title – Province and Departmental Teams to Clash
The tournament will feature 7 teams, including:
- 5 Provincial teams: Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim
- 2 Departmental teams: Tribhuvan Army Club and APF Club
The format will be a league-cum-knockout system, and all teams will be divided into 2 pools.
Cash Prizes & Awards
The champion team will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, while the runner-up will take home Rs. 50,000.
An “Outstanding Player of the Tournament” will be awarded Rs. 7,000 and a trophy.
Rugby Meets Sustainability: “A Try, A Tree” Campaign
In alignment with Asia Rugby’s goal of building a green future through sports, the “A Try, A Tree” campaign will be launched at this tournament. The initiative encourages planting a tree for every try scored during the competition.
Budget & Support
The estimated total budget for the tournament is Rs. 19 lakh.
- Shahid Smriti Sports Academy will cover Rs. 11 lakh
- The remaining expenses will be supported by sponsorship through the Nepal Rugby Association
Player Welfare: Insurance and Facilities Ensured
All participating players will be provided with:
- Accident insurance worth Rs. 1.25 lakh each
- Hotel accommodation
- Transportation arrangements
