Electric Shock During Repair Kills NEA Worker in Rukum West

A 29-year-old electrician lost his life on Thursday night while fixing a power line in Rukum West. The victim, Khimbahadur Khadka from SIsne Rural Municipality-3, Rukum East, was working on a utility pole in Bohoragaun, Musikot Municipality-4, when he was electrocuted.

He was an employee of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) under the Rukum East Distribution Center. According to DSP Pramesh Bista of the District Police Office, Rukum West, Khadka had climbed the pole around 10:30 PM to restore electricity after a power outage in Rukum East.

Police believe that a current from the Solabang Micro-Hydropower project might have passed through the line unexpectedly while he was working. He died on the spot before anyone could respond.

Local police, NEA staff, and community members worked together to bring down the body. Authorities confirmed the death on the scene. The body will be taken to Salla District Hospital for postmortem after necessary legal procedures and consent from the family.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the high risks faced by frontline workers who maintain Nepal’s essential services.
