Punjab Kings stormed into IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 after defeating Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in their final league match. With this win, Punjab secured a top-two finish and moved to the top of the points table with 19 points from 14 games.
Josh Inglis and Arya Seal the Chase
Chasing a target of 185, Punjab Kings reached the total in just 18.3 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
Josh Inglis played a match-winning knock of 73 runs, while young Priyansh Arya contributed 57. The duo added a vital 109-run partnership for the second wicket, anchoring the chase with calm and class.
Captain Shreyas Iyer finished unbeaten on 26 and sealed the win with a six, triggering celebrations in the Punjab dugout.
Mumbai’s Total Falls Short
Earlier, Mumbai Indians posted 184/7 after being invited to bat first.
Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with 57 runs, supported by Ryan Rickelton (27) and skipper Hardik Pandya (26). Despite a solid start, Mumbai couldn’t accelerate in the final overs.
Punjab’s bowlers impressed once again. Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen took two wickets each, while Vijaykumar Vyshak also grabbed two scalps. Harpreet Brar chipped in with one wicket.
Punjab Kings Clinch Top Spot on Points Table
With this clinical win, Punjab Kings are now guaranteed to play in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025. The top-two finish means they will get two shots at making it to the final — a massive advantage.
Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, finish the league stage in fourth place and will now play in the Eliminator.
Who Will Join Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1?
The final league match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will determine the second team in Qualifier 1.
If Bengaluru wins, they will join Punjab Kings. If not, Gujarat Titans will take the spot.
