1000°C Fire in Air India Crash Made Rescue Nearly Impossible

A tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad turned the accident site into a firestorm after a massive explosion caused by aviation fuel. The fire’s temperature reached around 1000 degrees Celsius, equivalent to volcanic lava, making rescue operations almost impossible.

The plane was carrying 1.25 lakh liters of fuel, which fueled the extreme blaze. The intense heat was so strong that it melted metal rescue equipment and kept response teams like NDRF and fire brigades from approaching the site for over 20 minutes.

Although the rescue teams arrived within 8 minutes, they couldn’t go near due to the intense flames. Everything — humans, vehicles, buildings — turned to ashes. Most bodies were burnt beyond recognition, and even nearby animals and birds couldn’t escape.

Out of 242 people onboard, 241 died on the spot, with only one survivor reported. Currently, authorities are using DNA testing to identify the charred remains of victims.
