Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey, who became a father last year, recently shared his views on religion and how it plays a role in his family. He revealed that on his son Vardaan’s birth certificate, the religion section was intentionally left blank.
Vikrant Massey explains why religion is a personal choice
In a heartfelt conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, Vikrant spoke about his personal approach to religion. He said religion can be a complicated subject but emphasized his belief in faith over formal labels. Vikrant explained, “Religion is a personal choice. For me, it’s a way of life. At my home, you’ll find all kinds of religions. I think religion is man-made. I offer prayers, visit gurdwaras, and also go to dargahs. All these give me peace.”
He also shared that he believes someone is always watching over him, and he thanks God daily for his work and safety. Despite facing some criticism on social media when he spoke about this earlier, Vikrant remains firm in his beliefs.
Why Vikrant left his son’s religion blank
Vikrant Massey went on to explain that he did not want his son to judge or treat people differently based on their religion or caste. He said, “When we received Vardaan’s birth certificate, the religion section was blank because we chose not to fill it. It’s not that the government forces you to write anything. We simply put a dash there.”
He added that it would break his heart if his son ever discriminated against anyone because of their religious practices. “I am not raising my son to think that way,” he said firmly.
A diverse family background
Vikrant also opened up about the rich cultural and religious diversity in his family. His father is Christian, his mother is Sikh, and his brother converted to Islam when he was 17. Vikrant is married to Sheetal Thakur, who comes from a Rajput Thakur family. Although he doesn’t follow one specific religion, Vikrant believes deeply in God. The couple held a traditional namkaran ceremony for their son, blending cultural customs.
Family life and future plans
Vikrant and Sheetal married in an intimate ceremony in 2022 after dating briefly. They welcomed their son Vardaan in February 2024. Since becoming a father, Vikrant announced a break from films to spend more quality time with his family.
