Flash flood risk in hilly areas of Nepal till Friday

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (Flood Forecasting Division) has warned that flash floods may occur in many small rivers across Nepal due to continuous rain. Several areas may see thunderstorms and lightning along with light to moderate rain.

High alert for hilly and Himalayan regions
Heavy rain is likely in parts of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, especially in high hills and Himalayan regions. Light to moderate rainfall and even snowfall are expected in these areas.

Regions under flood watch
Today, rivers flowing through the following districts may see a significant rise in water level, posing a moderate risk of flash floods:

  • Bagmati Province: Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Makwanpur, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Dolakha, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur
  • Gandaki Province: Kaski, Tanahun, Syangja, Baglung, Parbat, Gulmi
  • Lumbini Province: Pyuthan, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi

Thursday and Friday outlook
On both Thursday and Friday, the flow of water in small rivers of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces may increase suddenly due to rainfall.

Stay alert near rivers and flood-prone areas
The Flood Forecasting Division has urged people to stay alert and avoid activities near riverbanks, especially in the next two days, as sudden flooding could occur in small rivers.
