The courtroom drama Janaki vs State of Kerala (JSK), starring Union Minister Suresh Gopi, is finally set to hit theatres this week after receiving the green light from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Title tweak and muted dialogues cleared the way
On Wednesday, the film’s production company, Cosmos Entertainments, informed the Kerala High Court that they had received the censor certificate on July 11, 2025. With that confirmation, Justice N Nagaresh declared that the production company’s main grievance had been resolved, and disposed of the legal plea.
The censor board had raised concerns regarding the film’s original title and the repeated use of the word “Janaki” in the dialogue. To address these, the filmmakers made slight edits — renaming the movie to JSK Janaki V. v/s State of Kerala and muting or replacing certain audio segments as suggested by the board.
Legal protection over earlier content use
The High Court added that since the film was certified under revised circumstances, the use of promotional materials or teasers that carried the previous title would not result in legal consequences for the production house.
“No claim in that respect will lie against the petitioner,” the court clarified.
A story of justice and resilience
Directed by Pravin Narayanan, JSK also stars Anupama Parameswaran and revolves around a woman’s powerful legal fight for justice after facing assault.
Back on July 9, the filmmakers had raised concerns about rebranding so close to the film’s release. But with the censor board standing firm on the title issue, they agreed to the necessary modifications.
After navigating certification delays and last-minute title changes, JSK is finally set to reach audiences this week — with its message of justice now fully cleared for the big screen.
