Chinese actor-turned-entrepreneur Li Yapeng is once again in the spotlight—this time for his deepening financial troubles. According to The Cover, one of the companies tied to Li has been forcibly seized over a debt of 1.02 million yuan (around $142,000 USD).
The outlet contacted Lijiang Xueshan Investment Co., Ltd., where Li is a shareholder, but received only a brief comment: “This is an internal matter. The company is operating actively. Many real estate developers are facing similar situations.”
Not the First Legal Setback
This isn’t Li’s first brush with the law over money matters. Back on May 27, Chinese media reported that three executives from the same company were also placed under enforcement, with a combined debt of 2.44 million yuan.
Business Losses and Layoffs
Once a major TV star, Li Yapeng left acting in 2014 to focus on business. Unfortunately, his ventures have not gone smoothly. Reports suggest he’s now facing total debts of over 40 million yuan.
In 2023, one of his companies laid off around 200 employees, and some still haven’t received their compensation. Li is currently listed as the legal representative of two companies and holds shares in six others, though one has already been deregistered.
From Celebrity to Controversial CEO
Li Yapeng graduated from the Central Academy of Drama and gained fame through TV hits like Laughing in the Wind and The Legend of the Condor Heroes. He was married to singer Faye Wong, with whom he shares a daughter.
In late 2020, he confirmed a new relationship with Haiha Jinxi, who is 19 years younger. The couple married and welcomed a child in March 2022.
Despite his once-shining stardom, Li’s business journey remains rocky, marred by court orders, financial losses, and ongoing debt issues. Whether he can bounce back from this remains to be seen.
