A new bus park is set to be built in Urlabari Municipality, Morang, following a groundbreaking ceremony held on Sunday in Urlabari-6. The foundation stone was laid by Mayor Ganga Prasad Kharel, who also shared updates on the municipality’s efforts toward good governance.
During his address at the event, Mayor Kharel revealed that the municipality has significantly reduced its financial irregularities—from NPR 380 million to NPR 160 million. He emphasized the ongoing commitment to making Urlabari corruption-free, stating that establishing good governance is the key to eliminating corruption.
Chief Administrative Officer Abhay Kumar Gupta provided further details about the project. He said that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth NPR 129.3 million was prepared, and the final contract was awarded at NPR 110.3 million. Funding for the bus park will come from three sources: 60% will be a loan from the Town Development Fund, 30% from the municipality itself, and 10% as a grant from the same fund.
Gupta noted that although the project has an 18-month timeline, the construction company is confident of completing the work within 12 months since there are no technical or site-related issues. He added that the contractor will receive a reward for early completion, while delays will result in penalties.
Ankur Gautam, a representative from the construction company Abhi Designers Developers Pvt. Ltd., also confirmed their goal to complete the project ahead of schedule.
The foundation stone ceremony was chaired by Ward No. 6 Chairman Chintamani Paudel and attended by Deputy Mayor Meema Kumari Khatiwada. UML’s Urlabari Municipal Chairperson Niroj Timilsina also addressed the gathering on behalf of political parties.
The bus park will be constructed on 1 bigha and 13 katthas of land in Urlabari-6, with a total estimated cost of NPR 110.3 million.
