“I am being harassed in my own home,” Tanushree Dutta breaks down in video

Actor Tanushree Dutta, one of the first voices to spark India’s #MeToo movement, has once again spoken out—this time, revealing disturbing incidents of ongoing harassment at her own home. In an emotional video shared on Tuesday night, the former Miss India broke down while explaining the mental and physical toll the harassment has taken on her over the years.

In the video, Tanushree said the harassment began after she spoke out in 2018, when she accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment. “Guys, I am being harassed in my own home. Mujhe mere he ghar mein pareshaan kiya ja raha hai,” she said with visible distress. She also shared that she had contacted the police, who advised her to visit the station and file a formal complaint.

Living in fear and stress

Sharing the emotional burden she carries, Tanushree said, “I have been tortured so much in the last 4-5 years that my health has broken down. I’m not able to do anything. My house is a mess.” She also revealed that she avoids hiring house help because of negative past experiences, alleging that maids planted in her home stole from her or created chaos.

“I cannot even hire maids because they planted maids in my house… I had such bad experiences with maids, coming in and stealing and doing all kinds of things. I have to do all my work,” she said, trailing off mid-sentence without naming those she accused.

Strange noises and fear

In a follow-up video, Tanushree shared disturbing background noises and banging sounds from her home. She wrote, “I have also dealt with loud noises like this and other very loud banging noises above my roof and outside my door almost every day at odd hours since 2020. I got tired of complaining to the building management and gave up a few years ago.”

Reveals suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome

Tanushree said she’s been suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, triggered by years of stress and anxiety. “Today I was so unwell… I’ve developed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome due to dealing with constant stress for the last five years. This was going on all day and evening—way past acceptable hours!” she said in her caption.

She added, “Imagine… Yesterday I posted and today this! Now people should understand what I’ve been going through. There’s a lot more that I’ll mention in my FIR.”

Support pours in for Dutta’s brave stand

Many fans and members of the public have shown support for Tanushree’s emotional revelations. Her courage in once again standing up for herself has struck a chord with many who remember her key role in launching the #MeToo movement in India.

In 2018, she accused Nana Patekar of inappropriate behavior on the sets of the film Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss. Though Patekar was later given a clean chit, her case helped ignite an important conversation across the industry. She also accused filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri of misconduct on the set of Chocolate, which he strongly denied.

What next?

Tanushree Dutta says she will soon lodge a formal police complaint detailing all the incidents she has experienced. For now, her videos have once again reminded the public of the harsh reality many whistleblowers continue to face—long after the spotlight fades.
