A school teacher lost her life and a driver was injured in a jeep accident in Taplejung on Sunday. The vehicle, with registration number Me 1 Ja 3296, was en route from Phungling to Sikaicha in Sirijanga Rural Municipality–3 when it met with an accident.
According to Ward Chair Yubaraj Bhattarai of Phungling–11, the victim, Bhavana Bishwakarma, a teacher at Saraswati Secondary School, died on the way to the district hospital. She was traveling alone as other passengers had already gotten off. The jeep reportedly fell about 50 meters down the road while turning a curve.
“The school was reopening today, and she was on her way to work,” said Bhattarai. “Unfortunately, the vehicle veered off the road on a turn.”
She was declared dead before reaching Tribhuvan Chowk. Police Inspector Vivek Basnet of the District Police Office, Taplejung, confirmed that Bhavana was a resident of Phawakhola, Phungling–11. The driver, also from Phawakhola, is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
