A Beautiful Glimpse of Janakpur But Wheres the Story

A few months ago, the movie Purnabahadurko Sarangi attracted many viewers with its story. But after that, other movies like Karsang and Missing: Keti Harayeko Suchana could not bring in as many audiences. In some theaters, Missing: Keti Harayeko Suchana had to be canceled because there were no viewers. A staff member from Bishwojyoti Mall said that luckily, seven people came to watch the movie; otherwise, it would have been completely empty.

Story of the Movie

Director Dipendra Gauchan has tried to show the lifestyle and relationship between a girl from the hilly region and a boy from the Madhesi community in the movie Missing: Keti Harayeko Suchana. The movie focuses on how people today spend more time on social media than in real life. It also explores the beauty and culture of the Terai region while discussing the connection between the hilly and Madhesi communities.

The movie revolves around two main characters. A young woman, Sita (played by Shristi Shrestha), who lives in the hills, and Ram (played by Nazir Hussain), a young man from the Terai, meet at a restaurant through a dating app. Ram wants to prove to his friends that he can go on a date with a high-class girl. But things take a different turn when Sita drinks coffee mixed with sleeping pills, which Ram was carrying. After that, the story becomes more complicated. Ram takes Sita to Janakpur. Meanwhile, Sita’s family starts searching for her. The movie follows their journey and relationship.

Was Ram really planning to kidnap Sita? Will Sita be able to escape? These questions form the central story of the movie.

Direction and Execution

Director Dipendra Gauchan, who has previously made documentaries like Ujeli: A Child Bride in Nepal and Hamro Mumin, has returned to film direction after a long time. However, the audience has not responded well to the movie. The story is not very unique. Instead of focusing on the plot, the movie gives more attention to promoting Janakpur.

The best part of the movie is how it showcases the beauty of Madhes. It highlights Janakpur’s train, women’s entrepreneurship, village life, and the way people speak. These elements add some charm to the movie. However, the main story is weak, and it feels like the director was confused about how to move the plot forward. The film also feels unnecessarily long.

Acting and Music

Nazir Hussain’s acting is similar to his previous roles; nothing new can be seen. Shristi Shrestha’s acting is decent, but her dialogue delivery needs improvement.

One of the movie’s strongest aspects is its music. The Holi song and the romantic song make the audience want to dance inside the theater.

Conclusion

The movie Missing: Keti Harayeko Suchana does a great job of showcasing the beauty of Janakpur and Madhes, but the weak story and direction make it less enjoyable. While the music and visuals are impressive, the film lacks a strong storyline to keep the audience engaged.
