Aamir Khan Talks About Handling Movie Failures and Family Support

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has shared that he takes movie failures very seriously and often feels sad for about two weeks after his films do not perform well.

Speaking at the ABP Network’s “Ideas of India 2025” event, Aamir explained how he deals with failures. He said, “When my films fail, I feel depressed. I cry a lot for two to three weeks. After that, I sit down with my team and we figure out what went wrong. We try to understand what the audience thought of the movie so that we don’t make the same mistakes again. I see failure as a chance to improve.”

Aamir acknowledged the poor performance of his recent movies, Laal Singh Chaddha and Thugs of Hindostan, and admitted that he felt disappointed, especially with Laal Singh Chaddha, which was inspired by the Hollywood film Forrest Gump. “I felt very bad. We didn’t earn money. I’m an emotional person. Thugs of Hindostan didn’t turn out as planned, and we couldn’t make the film we wanted,” he said. He also added that he felt his acting in Laal Singh Chaddha wasn’t as impactful as Tom Hanks’ performance in the original movie.

Aamir credited his family for their constant support during tough times. “When Laal Singh Chaddha didn’t do well, my family knew how much I cared about the film, and they were always there for me,” he said, mentioning his children and wife Kiran, who gave him comfort.

The actor also spoke with pride about his films’ success in China, especially 3 Idiots. He revealed that the film became very popular there because it was pirated and shared widely. Aamir was surprised when he learned that the film had become a hit in China even though it hadn’t officially been released there. “We didn’t release it in China, but people watched the pirated version, and that’s how I became a star there,” he said.

Aamir is turning 60 next month and continues to stay positive despite setbacks in his career.
