The police have initially concluded that the two teenage girls from Achham, who went missing last Friday, were murdered.
The police had launched an investigation into the suspected murder of 15-year-old Saraswati Khadka and 14-year-old Ishara Khadka of Dhakari Rural Municipality-8, who went missing on Friday and were found dead on Saturday evening in the Sunghar Community Forest of Dhakari Rural Municipality-1. The girls had gone to look after goats and were later discovered deceased.
Taking the incident seriously, DIG Ganesh Chand from the Sudurpaschim Province Police Office personally reached the crime scene. Along with him, a joint investigation was conducted by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), the Provincial Police Office in Dhangadhi, as well as the Mahendranagar and Achham police teams, each adopting different approaches.
The two individuals arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident have reportedly admitted to committing the crime. However, the police have yet to disclose concrete conclusions, though they claim to have solved the case.
Achham District Police Office Chief, DSP Ishwari Prasad Bhandari, informed that a press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow to provide details about the incident.
“We have almost reached a conclusion on many aspects of the case. A press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow morning to reveal all the facts,” said Police Chief Bhandari.
Currently, two teenagers are in the custody of Achham police on charges of involvement in the incident. According to sources, both have confessed to their involvement. They were reportedly herding cattle alongside the victims.
The police believe that a dispute broke out among them, leading to the tragic incident. Based on their statements, the police have gathered further evidence and are set to disclose their final findings tomorrow.
Earlier, the victims’ family members had already filed a formal complaint, claiming it was a murder and identifying the accused. The deceased, who were aunt and niece by relation, were both eighth-grade students at Vidhya Pravodhini Secondary School in Kamal Bazar Municipality-10. The entire Dhakari area and their school community are mourning their loss.
