Actress Michelle Trachtenberg, known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, has tragically passed away at the age of 39.

Michelle Trachtenberg Found Unconscious in Manhattan

On Wednesday morning, police responded to an emergency call in Manhattan, where they discovered Trachtenberg “unconscious and unresponsive.” Despite efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that there are no signs of foul play, and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

A Star from Childhood to Adulthood

Trachtenberg rose to fame as a child actress, beginning her career at age 9 on the Nickelodeon show The Adventures of Pete & Pete. She gained widespread recognition for playing Dawn Summers, Buffy’s younger sister, on the iconic show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Later, she took on the role of the sly and manipulative Georgina Sparks in the popular drama Gossip Girl, where she appeared from 2008 to 2012.

In addition to her TV work, Trachtenberg made her film debut in Harriet the Spy in 1996 and appeared in films like EuroTrip, Ice Princess, Killing Kennedy, and Sister Cities.

Trachtenberg’s former co-stars have shared heartfelt tributes following her death. Blake Lively, who starred alongside her in Gossip Girl, remembered Michelle as someone who “did everything 200%,” noting her deep commitment to her work, her loyalty to friends, and her bold, distinct personality.

Rosie O’Donnell, who worked with Trachtenberg in Harriet the Spy, expressed her heartbreak, saying, “I loved her very much. She struggled the last few years. I wish I could have helped.”

Other Buffy stars, including David Boreanaz and James Marsters, shared their sadness, calling Michelle “fiercely intelligent” and “a very talented person.”

A Lasting Legacy

Trachtenberg’s last significant role was in 2021, where she hosted the true-crime docuseries Meet, Marry, Murder. She also returned to Gossip Girl in 2023 for two episodes of the reboot.

In 2021, Trachtenberg spoke out about alleged inappropriate behavior from Buffy creator Joss Whedon, following accusations from her co-star Charisma Carpenter.
