Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad is reportedly interested in acquiring Barcelona’s Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, as per sources close to the matter. The 27-year-old, who has been with Barcelona since his move from Ajax in 2019, has seen his role diminish in recent times.

De Jong’s transfer to the Catalan club was one of the most expensive in their history, with a fee rumored to be around €86 million. During his time at Barcelona, he has made over 230 appearances and contributed to their success in securing a La Liga title and a Copa del Rey trophy. However, injuries have plagued his recent seasons, causing him to miss nearly 50 matches since the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign.

With his current contract set to expire in 2026, negotiations for an extension have reportedly stalled. Al-Ittihad, aiming to strengthen their squad and compete with league champions Al-Hilal, sees De Jong as a valuable addition to their midfield. The Saudi club is actively seeking high-profile signings to elevate the quality of their league.
