Congress leader Minendra Rijal has said that many young people in Nepal are losing hope for a safe future, leading to a rise in youth migration. Speaking at an event organized by the Nepal Journalists Association in Kathmandu on Monday, Rijal said that constitutional changes are necessary to solve the problem of youth leaving the country.
He recognized that there have been improvements in areas like the economy, social services, health, and education over the past 30 years. However, he pointed out that these changes have not been enough to make young people want to stay in Nepal. “Over 2,000 people leave the country every day. Even though we have made progress, we haven’t been able to give young people hope for a better future,” he said.
Rijal also criticized how governments are formed and changed based on artificial majorities and said the constitution should be amended to allow one party to have a clear majority for more stable governments. He called for a review of the constitution after nine years of use and said changes are needed to improve democracy and address ongoing issues.
