Amazon Workers in North Carolina Reject Unionization in Warehouse Vote


Workers at an Amazon warehouse in Garner, North Carolina, voted against unionization, according to the results announced today. A total of 3,276 ballots were cast in the election, with 25.3% voting in favor of unionizing and 74.7% voting against it. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) still needs to certify the results.

Carolina Amazonians United for Solidarity and Empowerment (CAUSE), the worker group behind the unionization effort, blamed the outcome on Amazon’s alleged illegal actions. In a statement to CNBC, CAUSE accused the company of using intimidation tactics, saying, “Amazon’s relentless and illegal efforts to intimidate us show that the company is afraid of workers coming together to claim our power.”

Amazon spokesperson Eileen Hards denied the claims, asserting that the company did not break any laws. She added, “We’re glad that our team in Garner was able to have their voices heard and chose to maintain a direct relationship with Amazon.”

This vote follows the 2022 unionization win by Amazon workers in Staten Island, as well as a recent union vote at a Whole Foods location in Philadelphia, which is owned by Amazon.
