Filmmaker Anil Sharma, who directed and produced both parts of the Gadar series, has responded to Ameesha Patel’s remarks regarding the sequel, Gadar 2. Ameesha had previously stated that she had agreed to reprise her role as Sakeena under the impression that her character would kill the antagonist. However, she expressed her disappointment after discovering that the climax of Gadar 2 had been changed without her knowledge.
Anil Sharma’s Response
In an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Anil Sharma addressed Ameesha’s concerns, explaining that he had made the decision to alter the film’s script for the good of the story. He said:
“When Ameesha suggested that her character should also go to Pakistan, I told her it wasn’t possible within the context of the story. I asked her to consider whether it would make sense for the audience. After reading the script, she knew the direction the film was taking, and it wasn’t feasible.”
About the Role and Climax Changes
Anil also commented on the desire actors often have to expand their roles, saying: “Which actor wouldn’t want their role to be bigger? But in this case, it just wasn’t possible. Is Pakistan a tourist center? Should Tara Singh take his entire family with him? If someone holds a gun to Sakeena’s head, what will happen? Is Tara Singh crazy enough to put his loved ones in such danger?”
Background of the Film
Gadar 2 is the sequel to the hugely successful Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), which was set during the partition of India in 1947. In the original, Sunny Deol played Tara Singh, a truck driver, while Ameesha Patel portrayed his love interest, Sakeena. The sequel, released in 2023, focuses on Tara Singh’s perilous journey to Pakistan to rescue his son, played by Utkarsh Sharma, making it a massive box office hit.
