Anthony Mackie Promises Classic MCU Vibes in Avengers: Doomsday

Anthony Mackie is gearing up for his next big adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this time, it’s with Avengers: Doomsday. The actor, best known for his role as Sam Wilson (now Captain America), recently opened up about his excitement for the upcoming film, promising fans a return to the beloved essence of early MCU films.

In a recent chat with IGN, Anthony Mackie hinted that production is just around the corner, sharing, “We’re supposed to go out this week, and we’ll be out there doing it.” He also expressed his enthusiasm for working again with directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously helmed some of the MCU’s most iconic films.

“The Russos are back, and the script already feels incredible,” Mackie said. “It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling they always had.”

Avengers: Doomsday was officially unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con 2024, and anticipation has only grown since—especially with the surprise return of Robert Downey Jr. to the franchise. But in a twist, Downey Jr. won’t be suiting up as Iron Man. Instead, he’s stepping into a darker role, portraying the infamous villain Dr. Doom.

The star-studded cast continues with the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. Danny Ramirez will step into the role of the new Falcon, while Simu Liu is back as Shang-Chi. Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, and others are also joining the massive ensemble.

Adding even more excitement, Avengers: Doomsday will welcome the long-awaited integration of mutants into the MCU. Tenoch Huerta returns as Namor, and Channing Tatum finally takes on the role of Gambit after years of fan anticipation. He recently appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine, fueling even more buzz around his involvement.

Fans can also look forward to iconic X-Men characters making a comeback, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. The newly introduced Fantastic Four are also set to make their MCU debut.

With such a loaded roster and the return of beloved characters and directors, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be a monumental chapter in the Marvel saga. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
