Anthropic, the company behind the AI chatbot Claude, is close to securing $3.5 billion in new funding, increasing its total value to $61.5 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
At first, Anthropic planned to raise $2 billion, but strong investor interest has boosted the amount. Lightspeed Venture Partners, General Catalyst, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Abu Dhabi’s MGX are reportedly involved in the funding. If the round reaches $3.5 billion, Anthropic’s total funding will grow to around $18 billion.
The company introduced its latest AI model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, and has reached about $1.2 billion in yearly revenue. It is still operating at a loss. The new funds will help Anthropic develop more advanced AI technologies.
